PTC – From Rusty Steel Tanks to the Composite Solutions of the Future

In a world where material choices can determine sustainability, safety, and efficiency, PTC has established itself as a key player in the composites industry. Based in Kåge, Västerbotten, the company has been developing and producing composite solutions since 1965 for a wide range of industries, driven by the desire to solve problems and improve existing systems.

The journey began with the production of fiberglass oil tanks, a direct response to the issue of corrosion in traditional steel tanks. By switching materials, durability could be significantly improved, sparking a long-term commitment to composite technology.

– One of our driving forces is the constant ambition to evolve, finding new, more environmentally friendly raw materials and improving current manufacturing methods, says Mikael Lundström, CEO of PTC.

A Remarkable Story – PTC Returns to Family Ownership
PTC’s story is not only one of technical progress, but also one of coming full circle. The company was originally founded by Mikael’s grandfather and three of his brothers, and later passed on to Mikael’s father, Roger. However, during the financial crisis and subsequent recession, the family was forced to sell the business. PTC continued to operate under new ownership.

That wasn’t the end of the family’s connection. The investment firm No Plan B, which owned PTC at the time, launched an entrepreneurial school where young entrepreneurs were trained and invited to compete for the chance to take over part of a company, with the option to acquire more based on the profit they generated.

Mikael Lundström won the competition—and with that, PTC returned to family ownership. Today, Mikael owns 100% of the company.

Innovative Solutions for Demanding Environments
Today, PTC focuses on subcontracted production of composite products for some of the most demanding industries, including the automotive, pulp, chemical, and mechanical sectors.

At the 3,300 m² production facility in Kåge, modern technology is combined with decades of experience to meet customers’ needs for tailored solutions.

– Our large facility allows us to produce both large and small components, in both large and small batches. We also support customers from concept to finished product.

In-House Product Development for Specific Needs
In addition to contract manufacturing, PTC has developed its own products to solve specific problems across various industries. Among them are RedBlack.se, a battery charging cabinet designed for safe and controlled charging, and Brunn-Isak, a repair insert for concrete wells that reduces maintenance costs and improves working conditions.

A Future Built on Innovation
With a history shaped by problem-solving and technological progress, PTC continues to push the boundaries of materials and create new opportunities for industrial clients. The Västerbotten-based company is constantly looking for new challenges.

– We’re always on the lookout for interesting projects, big or small, limited only by imagination. We’ve delivered to the defense industry in the past, and that sector is very relevant right now, so we’re happy to contribute there, says Mikael Lundström, CEO of PTC.
